A (somewhat) honest look at what it's like to be a single, Christian woman in her mid 30s in Sydney who wants to remain true to the life that God has planned for her but doesn't want to let go of her dream of being in a relationship again and eventually being a wife and mother

-254 A Daily Reminder

I bought these letters and frame at the Easter Show earlier in April and have only just put them up. I decided to put it on the back of my front door so that every time I leave my flat I am reminded that I still have to keep my hope.

The Ninjas with their Migraine sticks have been stealthily stalking me this week and have made their presence known today. Thankfully it has just meant that I slept for about 15 hours straight so far, my head has felt like rubbish all day and I haven't wanted to socialise....oh and the insane need to eat carbs from Wednesday night to Friday night *sigh*...but other than that I've had no other horridness so I'm ok. :)

I was invited to join another Christian meet up group by someone who was somewhat annoyed by the other one. As I suspected the organiser of the Harbour Cruise one seems to get kick backs from the venues she books with *sigh*. But this other one seems genuine.

With regards to The Faith Files. Please email me if you would like me to put you on the list ( either publicly or privately ).  I would really love to pray for you :)

-271 Things I learned on a singles cruise

Wedge heels are pretty but there are days when your feet hurt without warning. Today was one of those days. New shoes were going to be required. Luckily I had time to spare and I knew just where to get some cheap flats.
Market City. Downstairs cheap and cheerful markets. Upstairs factory outlets.
New super cheap flats purchased.
And a super super hot hat perfect for being memorable and also good for sun protection out on the Harbour. It was a beautifully warm Autumn day today !
So on the way down to the wharf I was hopeful that I would meet some other Christians that had the potential to become social acquaintances and possibly friends ( and yes maybe I was hoping to spy a cute male or two !)
While on the Harbour Cruising this is what I learned today :
  • I blabber a bit too much when I am nervous.
  • The food was not worth $60 and I ate about $5 worth of food and drank a $2 diet coke.
  • I don't particularly love standard small talk questions and don't really love the way I answer them.
  • I need to become better prepared with small talk answers.
  • I need to have an answer for what are my pastimes other than making excuses for why I don't seem to have any. Which is rubbish because I do lots of things to pass the time. Just not things that sound appealing...."Oh I procrastinate a lot, I stare at the washing up and then avoid it, I blog, I check facebook, I watch DVDs I've seen a lot because they are comfortable, I sleep and avoid Ninjas wielding Migraine sticks...lol. Yup. Need to come up with good answers. Lol.
  • The best looking guy was not the most interesting.
  • The geeky, Science guy was the most interesting.
  • The guys all gravitated towards the small boned, blonde hostess even though she wasn't all that great of a conversationalist.
  • The brunette Catholic girl was the best conversationalist but lost the guys attention when she said that she was doing Lent at the moment.
  • I won't be going on another one. Or it's very doubtful....because....
  • It wasn't really a group for Christian singles...it was a bunch of different singles groups invited and mashed together. *sigh* I have no idea who was Christian and who wasn't.
  • The view was great !
  • As the day went on I got a lot more comfortable.
  • And I learned that I need to work on small talk...did I say that already ;)

So I needed a mint skim Grande iced cafe mocha from Starbucks on the way back to catch the train back to my car. I found out I had missed out on the Dark Cherry Mochas by only a week. *sigh*

Even though it wasn't what I was looking for today I did take a step out to do something different. I took a chance and stepped out of my comfort zone. Who knows what I'll do next?

-337 Hope

I'm not going to give up hope that I'll get married. I'm not going to let discouragement define me or disappointment rule my view for the future. Sure my biological clock is clicking down more towards the end of it's peak time to have babies than at the beginning but God does have a plan for my life and I still have that desire to share my heart and my life with a man who loves me. So I choose to let hope define me.

Many years ago I was praying and fasting and had a vision of a man putting a wedding ring on my finger. I was naive in the fact that at the time ( it was only maybe a year after The Real Ex and I had broken up and I was nagivating my first real post break up crush with The Guy I Used To DIG ) that I would be married soon ( HA! A decade later and my left hand is bare ! ) but every now and then I still feel how his hands felt in mine as he put that ring on my finger. Maybe it's just my active imagination but I am choosing to believe that it's God's way of reminding me from time to time not to give up hope.

And I've considered the possibility that this may never come to pass, that I may never in reality in this world feel those hands in mine, carefully and lovingly slipping that ring onto my finger. Will I lose my faith in God? Will I turn my back on Him and pass up my salvation ? Will I choose to walk away from the calling He has on my life?

No. I would not. While I desire a husband and the children and family that comes with it (hopefully) it's not all that I desire in life. It's just a part of it. It doesn't define my relationship with my Creator, Saviour, Father, Redeemer.

And while last night I reached the end of my ability to deal with the reality of being single at the age of 36 I didn't wrap my hope up in paper and throw it away with the rubbish this morning either.
